Veterans Day events to take place across campus | New


As Veterans Day approaches, several events will soon be taking place on campus. Almost all will have volunteer work opportunities and great experiences for everyone involved.

Flag planting

Thursday will mark the annual flag planting ceremony at OSU. Over 7,000 American flags will be planted for Veterans’ Week. Volunteers are accepted for 1-2 hour shifts from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Come to Library Lawn and watch or participate in the activity.

Dog Tag Placement

On Friday, dog tags will be placed on American flags for Veterans’ Week. Just like the day before, volunteers will be needed for 1-2 hour shifts. This time from 9 a.m. to midnight.

military movie night

At the Student Union Theater, the Office of Veteran Student Success invites OSU students to come watch a pair of free movies on November 8. At 5 p.m., Twilight will screen and right after Hacksaw Ridge. Popcorn and drinks will be provided free of charge.

Veteran Appreciation Dinner

November 10 will mark this year’s Veteran Appreciation Dinner. All veteran and military-affiliated students are encouraged to come and eat while making new friends. Be sure to arrive at 5:30 p.m. to fully register and start at 6 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to come and help register guests.

Veterans Day Ceremony

On November 11 at 10 a.m., the Edmond Low Library will host a Veterans Day Ceremony. It will take place in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room on the second floor. This event will also announce OSU’s new in-state tuition policy for military-affiliated students pursuing online degree programs.

Flag collection

On November 13, head to the library lawn and help pick up the more than 7,000 American flags from the library lawn. Just like previous internships, 1-2 hour shifts will be accepted from 9am to midnight.

To officially register as a volunteer for one of these events, you can go directly to the Oklahoma State CampusLink website or visit the student union’s Veterans Affairs Office of Student Affairs and apply in person.
