United South Central School Board Vice President Jon Feist, right, congratulates Ethan Koehler on being chosen as the student representative on the board. Later in the meeting, Koehler reported on the Veterans Day program and winter sports practices.

The United South Central School Board, at its November 16 meeting, approved a two-year contract with the United South Central Education Association.

“The negotiation meetings were very productive”, USC Superintendent Keith Fleming reported. “It only took us two meetings to come to an agreement.

In 2021-2022, the first year of the agreement, there will be an increase of 3.25% for each cell of salary grid A.

There is also a staff retention allowance of $ 1,500 which will be funded by Esser funds.

There is also a 2.5 percent increase for Schedule C.

The second year of the contract is the same, with the exception of the removal of the $ 1,500 staff retention allowance.

“The total package represents a seven percent increase over two years”, Fleming said.

The contract was unanimously approved by the board of directors.

The board is also sworn in to Ethan Koehler, who joins Lillian Neubauer, as the student representative on the school board.

Neubauer reported on American Education Week.

“Representatives of the FFA, the Drama Club and other organizations will be interviewed during the week by KBEW radio”, Neubauer mentioned.

Koehler also gave a brief report.

“We had good participation in the Veterans Day program,” Koehler said. “The program included four seniors from USC who gave short speeches. Winter sports practice has started and everyone is excited for the seasons to come.

Fleming also made a brief report.

“Now that the teacher’s contract has been concluded, we are entering into negotiations with the ESP (Education Support Professionals) bargaining unit.

The council has also agreed for a group to plan an outdoor learning and garden space to use two different areas of school property for the project they are proposing. One area is to the south of the school building near the pond and the other is at the north end of the property.

The board also approved a motion authorizing the purchase of equipment to improve the school’s ability to broadcast live events.

The amount was $ 10,760 and included money for new camera gear, microphone, camera monitor, and laptop in addition to other supplies needed to complete the upgrade.
