Telangana Congress student wing leader detained for ‘stealing a donkey’ after protests on CM’s birthday


National Union of India Students Telangana unit leader Balmoor Venkat was arrested by Karimnagar police on Friday for allegedly stealing a donkey.

Venkat (30) and six other people were charged under the sentencing articles of theft, unlawful assembly, provocation with intent to cause a riot, intentional insult to provoke another person, and relevant articles of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and IT Act. . The complaint was registered at the Jammikunta police station.

On Thursday, Venkat, on the birthday of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, staged a protest in which he carried a CM poster on a donkey and cut a cake. A complaint has been filed by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) activists at the police station asking for action against the members of Congress. As TRS held three days of statewide celebrations to mark CM’s birthday, state Congress Leader Reventh Reddy called for protests.

After Venkat’s arrest, Revanth Reddy tweeted, “What else can you expect from Telangana Police under KCR rule…?! What do you think of that…?”

Manickam Tagore, the Indian Congress Committee in charge of Telangana said, “Amazing by KCR @TelanganaCMO garu, how crazy when power goes to your head, you can put false cases against a student leader. No words to condemn the abuse of power by Telangana first Hitler.

Taking to Twitter, AICC national spokesperson Dasoju Sravan called it a “sleep of stupidity”.

Released on bail, Venkat, while speaking to, said such protests using donkeys were popular during the Telangana statehood movement and were organized by many leaders nationally.

“How can the ruling party celebrate CM’s anniversary for three days while farmers, students, youth and unemployed people are suffering? Such celebrations demoralize everyone. We have the right to protest,” Venkat said, adding that the donkey belonged to one of their own and there was no theft.
