PERRONVILLE — June Delores Smith, 79, formerly of Perronville, Michigan, died peacefully on April 12, 2022 in Texas.
June was born on November 1, 1942 to John and Stella (Gawlik) Wieciech in Chicago, Illinois.
In 1946, her parents moved from Chicago to the farm in Perronville, Michigan, where she attended elementary school and then college in Bark River, Michigan. She graduated in 1961 from Holy Name High School, Escanaba, Michigan.
After graduating, she left for Chicago where she worked at the Chicago Motor Club as a customer service representative. She then worked at the First Federal Bank as a banker and then at Engis as a laboratory technician operating an electron microscope. On September 9, 1967, she married Mike Smith. Two and a half years later, they welcomed their son, Michael, and she became a full-time mom. Five years later they moved to the Netherlands for Mike’s job and were able to travel all over Europe and experience many different cultures. After three years, they moved to Houston, Texas and remained in the area.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Stella; his brothers-in-law, Edward (Irene) Blahnik and Gary (Cynthia) Poynter.
She is survived by her husband Mike, Fulshear, Texas and her son Michael (Shelly), Fulshear, Texas and her sisters, Ann (Richard) LaBuda, Chicago, Illinois, Dorothy (Thomas) Gorski, Lombard, Illinois, Helen (Charles ) McKittrick, Colleyville, Texas, Irene (John) Jorasz, Perronville, Michigan, Cynthia Poynter, Burbank, Illinois, Mary (John) Pappalardo, Palos Hills, Illinois, Frances, Perronville, Michigan and her brother, Daniel, Perronville, Mich. and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Bark River, Michigan and a celebration of life in her honor around the 4th of July. Final arrangements are not complete at this time.
