KATMANDU, June 28: Five large student unions have decided to organize a demonstration against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) in the 77 districts of the country.
A meeting of the main leaders of the Union of Nepalese Students, ANNISU (revolutionary), ANNFSU, Union of Socialist Students and Akhil Sixth held on Sunday in the capital decided to organize a demonstration joint against the dissolution of HoR, according to GP Mainali, spokesperson for ANNISU (Revolutionary).
President Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the lower house of parliament on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. A lawsuit was then filed with the Supreme Court against the dissolution of parliament. A constitutional chamber is currently conducting hearings on legal requests against the dissolution of parliament.
Student unions also urged everyone not to interfere with the independent tribunal’s decision to dissolve HoR. They also expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would restore the dissolved parliament.
Likewise, the meeting decided to send a joint delegation to the vice-chancellor with a memorandum to discuss exams and educational issues at the university.
The unions have also called on private educational institutions to reimburse students‘ tuition fees during the lockdown and have warned of strict protests if they fail to do so. Likewise, student unions have called on the government to make the necessary arrangements for COVID-19 vaccines for students and teachers and to develop a conducive educational environment as soon as possible.
