Ebira Group awards scholarship to medical student from Kogi


The Ebira Education Trust Fund Board on Thursday awarded a scholarship to an indigent student to study Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) at the Federal University of Lokoja in the state of Kogi.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Mohammed Salihu Audu, who presented the scholarship to the recipient, Isaac Alaba David at the NUJ Press Center in Lokoja, Kogi State, said the award was a result of a “Save Our Soul” message received from an individual. who was offered admission to study medicine and surgery but was unable to accept the offer due to financial constraints.

The outcry caught the attention of members of the Ebira Education Trust Fund who are concerned about education for the less privileged in the central part of Kogi State.

Prof Audu, former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, said the board, through its selection committee headed by Prof Angela Okatahi, had investigated thoroughly on the issue that had led to the offer to Isaac.

Speaking on the origin of the trust fund, he said that the Ebira Youth Congress (EYC) conceptualized and launched the Ebira Education Trust Fund for the youth of Kogi Central as a powerful avenue through which the frontiers of knowledge could be further expanded.

He said; “The underlying rationale and beauty of the program is in fact to address a burgeoning cohort of quality intellectuals from various disciplines who will emerge among our young people over the next few years through the Trust Fund” ,
