MADHEPURA: A section of youths including members of All India Students Union (AISU) have filed a fierce protest against the Agnipath schemecreating vandalism at different places in Madhepura town in Bihar and burning down the BJP office here on Friday.
They staged a roadside protest march and set fire to an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Chawk College. Protesters smashed the windows of the Madhepura train station booking counter and vandalized official items at an education department office in the Madhepura block premises.
The agitators attempted to damage other railway property at the station, but the local administration arrived in time and foiled their bid. Madhepura SDM Neeraj Kumar accompanied by police forces rushed to the station and suppressed the crowd.
The agitators also poured out their anger on the BJP office, a two-storey building, and set it on fire. The office was locked from the outside as none of the party employees were present. Informed of the mob attack, police and party men rushed to the scene and put out the fire.
“We are taking stock of the losses in the fire,” said local BJP leader Rahul Kumar Yadav.
