Alabama goalkeeper Jaden Shackelford officially enters transfer portal

Alabama Guard Jaden shackelford officially entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday, BamaOnLine learned. Jeff Goodman of the stadium reported last week Shackelford intended to place his name in the transfer portal while keeping his name in the NBA draft process.

Matt Zenitz of was the first to report Shackelford’s appearance on the portal.

Shackelford, who will be a junior this coming season, led the Crimson Tide in scoring in the sophomore in 2020-21 with 14.0 points per game in 33 appearances (32 starts). The Hesperia, Calif. Native shot 41% from the field and 34% from the 3-point line last season and tallied 125 rebounds, 65 assists and 28 steals in the Sweet 16 race.

He announced he would test the waters of the NBA Draft without hiring an agent on April 15.

“The NBA has been my dream since I was a little boy who played in the aisle”, Shackelford said in mid-April. “I now have the opportunity to make it happen. That being said, I will be entering the 2021 NBA Agentless Draft to receive as much valuable feedback as possible regarding my future. Roll the tide! “

Selected for the All-SEC second team last season, Shackelford played 64 games in his first two seasons at the college level. Now that they play elsewhere this year, Alabama will need to replace all five of the team’s starters in last season’s NCAA tournament as Herbert Jones, John Petty and Jordan Bruner ran out of eligibility and Josh Primo turned pro.

“(Shackelford) and Primo have to make a decision on what to do with the draft “, Head coach Nate Oats said in May. “If we can get these two guys back I think we have a chance to be awesome. If we even get one of them I think we have a pretty good chance. class is coming. “

The Crimson Tide sack guards Jahvon Quinerly and Keon Ellis and have added 5-star rookie JD Davison and Texas Tech is transferring Nimari Burnett to the program this offseason.

Established in October 2018, the NCAA transfer portal now allows college student-athletes to simply enter their name into an online database and wait for college teams to contact them. It’s also worth noting that players can also remove their name from the portal.

The deadline for underclassmen, who wish to retain their college eligibility, to remove their names from the draft pool is July 7. NBA rules provide for a later withdrawal deadline, but the NCAA has its own set of rules that state the deadline is 10 days after the combine.
